Important to know first
MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money do not currently provide a direct user option to instantly cancel or reverse a transaction after the money has already been sent.
If a payment was sent to the wrong number, the main solutions usually involve contacting customer support, contacting the receiver directly or visiting an official MTN or Orange service shop near you.
Option 1 — Call customer support
Users can contact MTN or Orange customer support and explain what happened during the transaction and why they need assistance.
| Telecom operator | Customer support |
|---|---|
| MTN Cameroon | 8787 |
| Orange Cameroon | 8900 |
Customer support agents may guide users through the next possible steps depending on the situation and the transaction details available.
Customer support may request information such as:
- Sender phone number and account name
- Receiver phone number and account name
- Transaction amount
- Transaction time
- SMS confirmation details
Option 2 — Contact the receiver directly
In some situations, users can call the number that received the money or contact the person involved in the transaction and try to understand what happened.
If both parties reach an agreement or identify a mistake during the transaction, they may decide together on the next steps to resolve the issue.
Some support agents may also advise users to first attempt direct communication with the receiving number before additional procedures are started.
Option 3 — Visit an official MTN or Orange shop
Users may also visit an official MTN or Orange service shop directly for assistance with a Mobile Money or Orange Money transaction issue.
Official telecom service shops are usually more appropriate for transaction investigations and account-related problems than regular Mobile Money agent points.
At the shop, telecom personnel may request transaction details and explain what actions are still possible depending on the situation.
What telecom operators may still be able to do
If the money has not yet been withdrawn from the receiving account, telecom operators may sometimes still be able to investigate the transaction or temporarily block the funds.
Depending on the situation and the information provided, support teams may also attempt further account verification before deciding whether additional action is possible.
The faster the issue is reported, the higher the chances that support teams may still be able to help.
Important limitations
If the money has already been withdrawn from the receiving account, recovery may become much more difficult.
Some situations may require additional legal procedures or police involvement, especially in cases involving scams, fraud or account misuse.
These processes may take time and may not always lead to successful recovery of the money.
Important note
- There is currently no official USSD code that instantly reverses a Mobile Money or Orange Money transfer after confirmation.
- Keeping SMS transaction confirmations may help during discussions with customer support or telecom service shops.
- Users should always verify the receiver number carefully before confirming a transaction.
- Some situations may still require patience while telecom teams review transaction details.
