Fapshi

Fapshi is a Cameroon-focused payment platform providing Mobile Money collections, payouts, payment links and API integrations for businesses and developers.

How it works

Fapshi provides several ways to collect payments.

For a simple setup, you can use its payment links or other hosted payment options, where Fapshi handles the payment interface.

For a custom website or application, Fapshi provides API integrations. Initiate Pay lets Fapshi handle the payment flow, while Direct Pay allows the payment to be initiated directly from your own application.

Fapshi supports MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money for collections.

What you need to know before using it

Account verification requires personal identification information. Fapshi also asks for information about your business or activity.

If you want to use Direct Pay in production, sandbox testing is required first. Direct Pay is then activated after requesting approval from Fapshi Support and providing information about your platform and why Direct Pay is needed.

If you do not need Direct Pay, you can use Fapshi’s other payment options without going through that particular activation process.

Pricing & payment options

  • MTN Mobile Money
  • Orange Money
  • Payment links
  • API integration
  • Direct Pay
  • Initiate Pay
  • Payouts to supported Mobile Money and bank accounts
  • Current standard collection fee: 3% per successful payment

Pricing and available services can change, so check the official Fapshi website before integrating.

Who it may suit

Good fit if: you want to integrate MTN and Orange Mobile Money through an API, particularly if you are looking for a relatively lightweight onboarding process.

Worth considering if: you are building a custom payment experience and are prepared to request Direct Pay activation for production.

PayUnit

PayUnit is a payment platform that provides online payment collection, payment links, checkout, invoicing, APIs, SDKs and payout services for merchants and developers.

How it works

PayUnit allows you to create an application representing your business or activity. You can create either a Payment Collection application for integrating PayUnit into a website or mobile application, or a Payment Link application for creating links that can be shared directly with customers.

For developers, PayUnit provides REST APIs and SDKs for integrating payments directly into an application. Its payment system supports Mobile Money and card payments, with available payment methods depending on the country and the merchant’s KYC level.

PayUnit also provides hosted checkout, invoices and payment links for people who do not want to build the entire payment experience themselves. Payment links can be shared through channels such as WhatsApp, SMS, email or a website.

What you need to know before using it

The main consideration with PayUnit is KYC.

PayUnit uses different KYC levels. Level 1 requires a selfie holding an ID card and a clear copy of the ID card or passport. Level 2 requires the Level 1 documents plus business/legal documents such as the Registre du Commerce et du Crédit Mobilier and a tax declaration. PayUnit says KYC validation can take up to 72 hours.

KYC also determines access to payment methods. PayUnit’s documentation states that additional payment methods become available after KYC validation.

For Cameroon-based merchants, PayUnit also requires a payout account to receive collected funds, and its documentation states that payouts are made to the merchant’s Mobile Money account.

Payment options & services

  • MTN Mobile Money
  • Orange Money
  • Visa / Mastercard
  • Payment links
  • Hosted checkout
  • API integration
  • SDKs
  • Invoicing
  • POS services
  • Payouts and cashout
  • Bulk disbursements

The exact payment methods available to an account depend on the country, payment service providers connected to the account and KYC level.

Who it may suit

Good fit if: you want more than basic payment collection and prefer having payment links, invoices, checkout, APIs and payout tools available from one platform.

Keep in mind: PayUnit’s functionality is closely tied to its KYC and merchant verification process. If you need additional payment methods or broader production capabilities, you should be prepared to provide the required legal documentation.

Notch Pay

Notch Pay is a payment gateway that provides online payment collection and API-based payment integration for businesses and developers in Cameroon.

How it works

Notch Pay provides an API-based payment system that allows a website or application to initiate and verify payments rather than requiring the developer to build the Mobile Money infrastructure themselves.

The platform also provides a merchant dashboard where transactions and account activity can be managed.

What you need to know before using it

Notch Pay’s onboarding was relatively straightforward compared with some other payment gateways. Identity verification is required, after which developers can proceed with sandbox and live payment integration.

However, recent user experiences are worth considering before making Notch Pay your primary payment provider.

During the recent period covered by this guide, users have reported difficulties with withdrawals and delays in payment processing. Some users have also reported that transactions can remain pending for an unusually long time before their final status is reflected.

The service remains online and available, and these reports should not be interpreted as a claim that Notch Pay is fraudulent or no longer operating. The concern is primarily about its recent reliability and the lack of clear communication around these reported issues.

Pricing & payment options

Notch Pay provides online payment collection and API integration for merchants.

For current fees, supported payment methods and account requirements, check the official Notch Pay website before integrating, as these can change.

Who it may suit

Worth researching if: you want a relatively straightforward payment API and are willing to verify the provider’s current operating condition yourself.

Use caution if: reliable transaction-status updates and dependable withdrawals are critical to your business. Given the recent reports and delays, it may be safer to have another payment provider available rather than making Notch Pay your only payment option.

CamPay

CamPay is a Cameroon-focused payment gateway for businesses and software developers. It allows merchants to collect and send payments through MTN Mobile Money and Orange Money, while also providing payment links, invoices, API integration, transaction tracking, deposits, withdrawals and mass payouts.

How it works

CamPay provides a single API for MTN and Orange Mobile Money in Cameroon, allowing developers to integrate payment collection, payment sending and transaction-status checks into a website or application.

For businesses that do not need a custom API integration, CamPay also provides payment links and invoices. It also offers integrations such as WooCommerce.

What you need to know before using it

CamPay provides a Demo/Sandbox environment where developers can register applications, obtain API credentials and test their integration before moving to production. The sandbox supports testing both MTN and Orange payment flows, including predefined test numbers for successful and failed transactions.

The sandbox dashboard currently limits test transactions to 25 FCFA and provides separate test numbers for MTN and Orange payment outcomes.

Moving to production is a separate process. CamPay's Go Live application asks for company information including a website or app link, RCCM registration details, tax identification information, ACF information and identification details, followed by a document-upload stage.

This makes CamPay relatively straightforward to explore and test, but businesses should be prepared to provide formal company and tax documentation when applying for live access.

For businesses that do not need an API integration, CamPay also offers payment links, allowing customers to pay without the merchant building a custom payment system.

Pricing & payment options

  • MTN Mobile Money
  • Orange Money
  • API integration
  • Payment links
  • Invoices
  • Mass payouts
  • Deposits and withdrawals
  • Transaction tracking

Its currently published pricing lists 2% on deposits/collections, 1% on withdrawals, and 5,000 FCFA for bank transfers.

CamPay also states that funds can be deposited to a bank account or Mobile Money account by the next business day.

Who it may suit

Good fit if: you want one API for MTN and Orange Mobile Money and also want additional tools such as payment links, invoices and payouts.

Worth considering if: you want to test an API before committing to production. CamPay provides a dedicated sandbox with test transactions and then a separate Go Live process for production access.

Keep in mind: the sandbox and live environments have different requirements. Production access requires company and tax information, including RCCM and NIU details, so businesses should check that they have the required documentation before planning a live integration.

CinetPay

CinetPay is an African fintech company created in Côte d'Ivoire in 2016 that provides payment collection and money-transfer services across several African markets. It is not a Cameroonian company, but it operates in Cameroon through CinetPay Cameroun SARL.

How it works

CinetPay acts as a payment aggregator, connecting businesses to multiple payment methods through a single platform. In Cameroon, its payment documentation currently lists MTN Mobile Money, Orange Money, Express Union and Visa/Mastercard for online payments.

For developers, CinetPay provides APIs for payment collection and money transfers, as well as SDKs for technologies including PHP, Python, JavaScript, Flutter and Android. Its API Direct product allows businesses to build their own payment interface and also provides transaction-status tracking and webhooks.

CinetPay also provides payment links, allowing businesses to collect payments without building a complete payment integration.

What you need to know before using it

CinetPay's onboarding is more formal than some of the simpler Cameroon-focused gateways.

The merchant process involves creating an account, completing the required regulatory/KYC validation, and then creating a merchant service before accessing the credentials required for API integration. CinetPay's documentation specifically states that a valid account and merchant service are prerequisites for integration.

The current CinetPay contact form also asks prospective merchants for information such as their company name, sector of activity, sales range, trade-register number, country and requested CinetPay services. This means that businesses should expect a formal merchant onboarding process rather than simply creating an account and immediately obtaining production API credentials.

Once activated, CinetPay provides a considerably broader payment infrastructure than just Mobile Money collection, including payment APIs, transfers, payment links and other business payment products.

Pricing & payment options

For Cameroon, CinetPay currently lists:

  • MTN Money — 2%
  • Orange Money — 2.2%
  • Express Union — 2.5%
  • Visa/Mastercard — 3.5%

The published collection processing time is currently listed as 45 seconds.

CinetPay also provides payment links and mass payouts. Its current Cameroon pricing page lists mass-payout fees of 1.5% for MTN Money and 1% for Orange Money, with a listed processing time of 5 seconds.

Who it may suit

Good fit if: you want access to multiple payment methods through one established African payment platform, including MTN and Orange in Cameroon, with APIs and additional payment tools.

Worth considering if: you are building a more formal online business and need more than basic Mobile Money collection, such as payment links, transfers, multiple payment methods or developer integrations.

Keep in mind: CinetPay requires a formal merchant onboarding and regulatory-validation process before you can fully use its production services. If you are looking for an API that you can activate with minimal business documentation, this may be a more demanding route than some of the other gateways covered in this guide.

Neero

Neero is a Cameroonian fintech platform offering financial services through its mobile application, including Mobile Money, transfers, payment links, virtual Visa cards and multi-currency financial services.

How it works

Neero is primarily built around its mobile application. To open a Neero account, users are directed to download the application from the App Store or Google Play and create their account there.

The platform also provides payment links that can be shared through websites, WhatsApp, SMS or email. Customers can use supported payment methods such as Mobile Money, cards or a Neero account to complete the payment.

For developers, Neero also provides a payment gateway API with transaction management, payment methods, status checking and webhooks.

What you need to know before using it

The biggest difference compared with many of the other gateways in this guide is the account-access experience.

Neero's public website does not take you through a conventional browser-based merchant signup. When attempting to open an account, the platform directs you to download the Neero mobile application and create the account there.

This makes Neero more app-centric than gateways such as Fapshi, PayUnit or CamPay, where the initial developer/merchant experience can be handled through a web dashboard.

Neero also provides a developer payment gateway separately. Its API documentation describes sandbox and production environments and supports transaction states such as PENDING, FAILED, EXPIRED and SUCCESSFUL, together with webhook support.

For payment links, Neero allows merchants to create a link with a specific amount, description and optional post-payment destination. Its documentation states that payment links automatically expire after nine days.

Pricing & payment options

  • Orange Money
  • MTN Mobile Money
  • Wave
  • Visa cards
  • Neero accounts
  • Payment links
  • Multi-currency accounts
  • Bank transfers
  • Bill payments
  • Mobile Money transfers

For developers, Neero's payment gateway provides API-based payment collection and transaction management.

Who it may suit

Good fit if: you want a broader financial platform rather than only a payment gateway, with features such as Mobile Money, transfers, payment links, virtual cards and multi-currency services.

Worth considering if: you are comfortable using a mobile application as the main entry point to the service and want access to Neero's wider financial ecosystem.

Keep in mind: Neero is app-centric. Opening a Neero account currently directs users to download the mobile application, so it is a different experience from payment gateways that provide a browser-based merchant onboarding and dashboard from the beginning. Its developer API is a separate part of the platform and should be evaluated independently if your primary requirement is API-based payment collection.
